About Us

The Bond Wilson Technical Center (BWTC) is a forward-thinking district initiative transforming the high school experience by aligning education with students' career aspirations and local industry demands. Through innovative dual credit programs and real-world industry experiences, BWTC equips students for seamless transitions into the workforce and post-secondary education. Our objective is to cultivate a new generation of globally competitive, skilled individuals who will drive the evolving economic growth of the Navajo Nation and surrounding communities.

BWTC offers ten distinct Programs of Study, for students in grades 10-12. Each program integrates university-level coursework with valuable work-based learning opportunities. Students will complete their core academic subjects at their home high schools and attend BWTC for specialized, higher education classes and practical experiences.

Any high school student (10th-12th) in Central Consolidated School District can participate in the early college initiatives hosted at Bond Wilson Technical Center. We are taking new students now! CCSD Students can apply now at this link.

Students from all four high schools within the Central Consolidated School District can participate. This includes Kirtland Central High School, Shiprock High School, Career Prep High School, and Newcomb High School (@ NHS). Students must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the current school year. BWTC currently offers students in the 10th through 12th grades, six new guided post-secondary pathways in place of their traditional high school-based elective offerings. Each Pathway will result in the student attaining university credits and an industry credential. Students will complete all their core classes at their home high school and then travel to Bond Wilson Technical Center for higher education classes and coursework.

In collaboration with Navajo Technical University, San Juan College, and our local industry partners, Raytheon, Arizona Public Service, Navajo Transitional Energy Company, & North American Coal-Bisti Fuels, we have developed nine university pathways.

The pathways are Culinary Arts, Welding, Construction, Engineering/Energy Systems, Engineering Graphics, Early Childhood Education, Health Science (Pre-Nursing), and Information Technology, Entrepreneurship/Finance.

Bond Wilson Technical Center is housed within the former Grace B. Wilson Elementary School. The name Bond Wilson came from former elementary schools Grace B. Wilson and Ruth N. Bond. When Judy Nelson Elementary School opened in 2017, Grace B. Wilson Elementary was slated to be torn down. Rather than lose the building, Central Consolidated School District  requested permission from the State of New Mexico to re-open the building as a center for early college academy initiatives. The State of New Mexico agreed, and Bond Wilson was born.

Industry-Based Education gets its name from the "Place Based" education movement. Like Placed Based Education, Industry Based Education is an approach to learning that takes advantage of "Place" to create authentic, meaningful and engaging personalized learning for students.  With the help of local industry we have developed immersive curriculum, new course offerings and career experiences that will make our students ready for work and college.

To put it simply, a College Academy is a guided dual credit pathway for high school students. The College Academies at Bond Wilson Technical Center place our high school students in a work based learning pathway based on their career interests.  This model allows our students to still participate in activities and athletics at their local high school while providing them with additional opportunities for dual credit and skill attainment.

The College Academies at Bond Wilson Technical Center meets all requirements set by the New Mexico Public Educations Early College High School Initiative. BWTC has also received full designation status from the NMPED in 2018.
