Dear Parents and Families,
We are writing to invite you to participate in an important focus group session regarding the new Statewide Student Information System (SSIS). The New Mexico legislature has appropriated funds for this project to implement a single student information system for all New Mexico school districts and charter schools.
Where: Phil Thomas Performing Arts Center, State Rte 504, Shiprock, NM 87420
When: Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
The session for parents is scheduled to take place from 11 am to 12 pm. Staff will start at 10 am.
A Student Information System (SIS) is a computer database that is critical to school operations and is used widely by staff, teachers, students, and parents. Currently, school districts in New Mexico use 7 different SIS platforms. This creates challenges, such as difficulty transferring records between school districts. The goal of the SSIS is to align all districts to one system, aiming for benefits like enhanced training and support for parents, improved data accuracy, and better collaboration across districts.
The Public Education Department (PED) is implementing this statewide system, with the first cohort of opt-in districts expected to use it in the SY2026- 27 school year. As part of this process, our school district, Central Consolidated Schools, has been selected as a prime location to hold SSIS Focus Group sessions to collect valuable feedback.
Your feedback is crucial!
The New Mexico PED needs your help in identifying the critical features in an SIS that your school district (and you as parents) relies on. The input gathered from these focus group sessions will be used to guide the SSIS product selection.
We are hosting a session specifically for Parents / Families on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Phil Thomas Performing Arts Center in Shiprock, NM. The session for parents is scheduled to take place from 11 am to 12 pm. Staff will start at 10 am.
During the session, PED will provide a high-level overview of the SSIS project (approximately 7 minutes). The majority of the time (approximately 40 minutes) will be dedicated to gathering your feedback by stepping through 5 different questions. We will then have about 3 minutes to wrap up. PED are currently in the exploratory phase, researching and gathering feedback, so they don't have all the answers yet.
If you are unable to attend the session but would still like to provide your input, you may submit your feedback now by scanning the QR code or entering the following URL:
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Central Consolidated School District
