Kirtland Central High School JROTC to Honor Veterans with Special Event on Nov. 1, 2024

Watch Video Release

Kirtland, NM – The Kirtland Central High School Army JROTC Program is proud to announce a special Veterans Day event on November 1, 2024, in partnership with the New Mexico National Guard. This celebration is dedicated to honoring our veterans and their families, providing a day filled with meaningful activities for the community.

Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Jessalyn Willie, Battalion Commander, expressed her excitement about the event: “We are honored to organize this tribute to our veterans, showcasing their sacrifices and service to our country.”

The highlight of the event will be the landing of a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter at the Kirtland Middle School football field, scheduled for 2:00 PM. This experience promises to be both educational and inspiring for students and attendees alike. In addition, a motorcycle pass and review featuring military veterans will take place, alongside an exhibit of National Guard equipment and vehicles, allowing attendees to engage with service members and learn about their vital roles.Cadet Major Shidaija Jacquez, Executive Officer of the Bronco Battalion, invites the community to join in the celebration: “We encourage everyone to bring their families and friends to honor our veterans. Our campus will open to the public at 1:30 PM, with entry available through the football field gate on the west side.”

The event will include a moving tribute featuring a large American flag held by veterans during the performance of the national anthem by the high school band. Furthermore, a special flyover by the Black Hawk helicopter will serve as a salute to our veterans, enhancing the significance of the occasion.

Media representatives are invited to cover this significant event, with the KCHS public relations supervisor available to assist with visual materials and b-roll footage. Yearbook students and cadet officers will also be capturing photographs throughout the day.

“Join us as we pay tribute to those who have served our nation,” said Jessalyn. “This is a day of honor and remembrance that you will not want to miss.”

FFA at National Stock Show

FFA at National Stock Show

Kirtland FFA spent Christmas break at the Arizona National Livestock Show. We had 4 students in attendance, and one younger brother of a member. This show brought in people from 30 states (even Hawaii) and we hung competitively with the very best in the nation! I’m going to list what each kid competed in instead of individual animal results so I make sure I don’t get any wrong.

I also want to shout out our wonderful maintenance crew for everything they do to get the farm back up and running. Because of you, we have kids coming home to Kirtland with national champion honors! Thanks!!! If you see these guys, please make sure to tell them how much they’re appreciated.

Teacher Appreciation At The Football Game

Teacher Appreciation RecipientsThe Teachers and Their Students

On Friday, September 22, 2023, the KCHS football players nominated their favorite teachers from throughout their school years. Teachers received a certificate from the player who nominated them, and were invited to the 9/22 football game, where they enjoyed a pre-game Cajun Boil prepared by Coach Clary's parents. At the game the teachers walked onto the field wearing their players' jerseys. Coach Clary started this tradition last year, and the players have had "so much fun doing it," according to the Coach.

New Statue At KCHS!

Senior gifts have been a long standing high school tradition showing student support and setting an example for future classes.  Class of 2023 Student Body President Madison Manuelito wanted to reignite this tradition and set out to showcase the pride of The Class of 2023.  With the support of CW2 (R.) Pedro Larribas, of the JROTC Bronco Battalion, they garnered local support from the Four Corners Power Plant to purchase a mighty Bronco Statue.  This statue can be viewed in the commons at Kirtland Central High School.
